Mary njoki Waweru


Mary is an influential voice with over 3 million impressions in the past year on LinkedIn where she has built a strong following of 20K professionals. Her anti-oppression journey started in her homeland of Kenya with activism and participation in the 2015 protests in Nairobi against gender and child-based violence. This inspired Joyce Wanjala lay, then Taita Taveta County Women Representative, to invite her and other organisers to a meeting at Parliament. Later in 2019, Mary met and advised Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK on service design. This was done through her gender advocacy which includes the experiences of Kenyan women living abroad while attaining official Kenyan documentation.

Mary had a successful stint at Wunderman Thompson as the Global Project Manager - Content Maintenance for Nokia (dot) com and the Nokia Foundation websites. She also contributed to research and communications as a culture strategist on social impact projects for clients like Bayer and brief preparation for brands like Vaseline. Mary spearheaded other digital and content marketing projects for clients like Volvo, DELL Technologies, Nokian Tyres and KONE.

LEARNING SPACES


Mary guides organisations to build safe and inclusive cultures, practices, policies, and communications. She has designed and facilitated courses, workshops and keynotes. Mary has spoken at local and international panels and worked with clients like EY, Next Games A Netflix Game Studio, Unity Technologies, Aiven, EcoVadis, etc. She has partnered with higher education institutions like Åbo Akademi University, Häme University of Applied Sciences and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.  

Mary attained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Business Management and Entrepreneurship from Hamë University of Applied Sciences in Hämeenlinna. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration specialising in International Business from Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki.
