FOUNDER AND CEO

Mary Waweru attained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Business Management and Entrepreneurship from Hamë University of Applied Sciences in Hämeenlinna. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration specialising in International Business from Arcada University of Applied Sciences in Helsinki.

Mary is an influential voice with over 2.6 million impressions in the past year on LinkedIn where she has built a strong following educating professionals on anti-racism, diversity, equity and inclusion, inclusive communications, social impact and colonialism / neo-colonialism. Her anti-oppression journey started in her homeland of Kenya with gender equity work that consisted community organising and the 2015 protests in Nairobi against gender and child-based violence. This inspired Joyce Wanjala lay, the Taita Taveta County Woman Representative, to invite her and other organisers to a meeting at Parliament. Later in 2019, Mary met and advised Kenya’s High Commissioner to the UK on service design which was introduced through her advocacy for the experiences of Kenyan women in attaining official Kenyan documentation while living abroad.

Most recently in Helsinki, Mary had a successful stint at Wunderman Thompson as the Global Project Manager in Content Maintenance for Nokia (dot) com and the Nokia Foundation websites. She also contributed to brief preparation for brands like Vaseline, and research and communications, as a cultural strategist on social impact projects for clients like Bayer. Mary spearheaded other digital and content-related projects for clients like Volvo, DELL Technologies, Nokian Tyres and KONE.

At Crest Impact, Mary now guides organisations to build safe and inclusive cultures, practices, policies, and communications. She has facilitated diversity training workshops, designed and delivered anti-racism and diversity, equity and inclusion courses online, in-person and internationally. Mary has also spoken at local and international panels and worked with global clients including Next Games, A Netflix Game Studio, Unity Technologies, Aiven, etc. Her social impact work has seen her partner with higher education institutions like Åbo Akademi University and Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.
